This article attempts to analyse the behaviour of the ruling political parties and the consequences of emerging casteism in Tamil Nadu during the last thirty years of Dravidian rule in a historical perspective. It argues that, instead of getting eradicated, the caste system has got revived and vertical polarisation amongst castes has taken place in Tamil Nadu, which is undeniably a threat to the secular democratic system.
