Abstract
A designed experiment can address issues that modeling on time series data cannot. The article illustrates the power of experimental design and analysis with multinomial logit models to assess the independent effects of price factors. It uses the example of tourists from Kuala Lumpur choosing one of eight destinations in contexts where the prices of one alternative (Sydney) were varied. Airfares are seen to have more impact on destination choice than hotel tariffs or exchange rates.
