This article reports a time series analysis of the impact of direct flights on tourism to Hawaii's Neighbor Islands beginning in 1983. Direct flights resulted in a modest gain in tourism and diverted travelers away from Oahu, and relieved congestion at Honolulu International Airport. To the extent that travelers were diverted from Oahu to the Neighbor Islands, income was redistributed as well.
