Abstract
The collection and standardization of tourist statistics should be improved. Statistics by age should be entered utilizing five-year age intervals and extending beyond age 80. Both nationality and country of residence should be collected. More demographic information that can be cross-tabulated with age is warranted; these include sex, marital status, occupation, and income. Anyone who has endured the frustrations of working with tourism statistics will endorse these recommendations and understand the difficulties encountered in trying to study the older traveler.
