Abstract
Teachers who want to include multicultural perspectives in their curriculum can explore the funds of knowledge of the parents of their students by using oral history projects in their classrooms. This article describes a rationale and an approach for helping teachers use the life histories of parents and members of the community as scaffolds to teach social studies and history concepts. The article illustrates the approach with examples from a case study of an extended Puerto Rican family and abstracts of teacher reflections on the process.
