This study of structural determinants of teacher-parent relations is
based on observations at different types of preschools and inter
views with preschool teachers. A typology of teacher-parent
interactions was developed in terms of differences in parent power
vis-à-vis teachers. The discussion points up the limited applicability
of prior descriptions of teacher-parent relations and suggests
implications of this typology for the outcome of school decen
tralization programs.
