Abstract
“If vision as a metaphor‘works’ it must do so because the making of metaphors is itself a genuine mode of vision … In Scripture as in Christian worship, revelation is strongly linked to vision, not only as light coming from a distant source but with constant reference to the power of seeing itself … climaxed by the Fourth Gospel's claim that‘the true light which enlightens every man’ is coming into the world.”
