“The fact is that church-sponsored service activities currently are undergoing a series of tensions requiring some systematic and workable resolution. The ‘contraries’ admit the partial validity of dual principles. Yet the partially valid principles appear to be in conflict. The resulting dilemmas constitute the dark night of the soul of church-sponsored service activities.”
