The Reformation as Innovation

Abstract

This article examines the Reformation as an especially impactful example of religious innovation. It focuses on how the content and institutional reception of Martin Luther's 95 Theses launched trajectories of innovation. Some of these were intended, some were not. Exploring these various layers, the article raises questions about the nature of religious innovations and how they come about.
