Abstract
Developments in philosophy over the last 50 years have had an increasing effect on conventional opinion. In particular, relativist tendencies link truth not to an independent reality, but to the judgement of individual or society. Christianity, however, needs to look to a transcendent God, as Creator, so that this is God’s world. Without the concept of a truth that is to be discovered, not constructed, by humans, all possibility of reason is destroyed, and the use of force to achieve agreement becomes the likely alternative.
