Abstract
Hebrews 4.14–16 is used to explore the idea that Jesus was free from sin. The text raises both pastoral and theological questions, hinting at docetism and making God seem remote from human beings. The writer’s aim is a worthy one, but is best served by not asserting Jesus’ moral perfection and by bringing divine and human closer together.
