Abstract
This study discusses the evaluation of roving uniformity (U%) of fine denier polyester and rayon fibers after drafting in the break draft zone. A new method is presented for determining a suitable draft ratio of break draft in spinning to obtain the best yarn quality using the technique of drafted roving uniformity. The fundamental relationships between drafting conditions (such as draft ratio and roller gauge) and uniformity (U%) of the drafted roving have the same trend as drafting force. Base on the correlation of drafted roving uniformity and yarn properties, a drafting ratio corresponding to a lower U% can be chosen as the suitable break draft in spinning to obtain the best yarn quality. The results reveal that the techniques of drafted roving U% and drafting force provide nearly identical results.
