Abstract
In this study, we investigate the propagation mechanisms for transverse vibrations in textile surfaces, On the basis of experimentation, we propose a mathematical model based on the membrane theory. The experimental study involves a rectangular fabric sample, fixed at two opposite edges, and free to vibrate at the two other edges. This fabric sample is subject to uniaxial constant load and is excited transversely with a harmonic force. The first natural frequency of vibration can be measured using this experimental system. A simple model based on membrane theory validates the exper imental results.
