Abstract
This work discusses the application of computer image analysis to study cross sections of polyester filament/rayon staple fiber composite yarns. It attempts to quantify the distri bution of dispersed filaments in images of cross sections obtained with a scanning electron microscope and analyzed by computer algorithms. This work also defines parameters such as radial and lateral distribution indices and aggregation and normalized indices for quan tifying the composite yarn cross sections. The results reveal that computer image analysis and manual analysis systems provide nearly identical results.
