Single-step dyeing in conjunction with formaldehyde-free durable press finishing of cotton textiles is discussed. The efficacy of polycarboxylic acids (BTCA and CA) as crosslinkers when used individually and as mixtures of various ratios in conjunction with direct dyes is investigated. Wrinkle recovery and dye fixation levels are compared with the conventional two-step dyeing and finishing process. Effects of additives on dye fixation and wrinkle recovery also are addressed.
