Abstract
A solar energy absorbing and retaining fabric has been developed by incorporating a zirconium carbide compound into the core of the filaments. The resulting fabric absorbs visible and near infrared solar rays and converts them into thermal energy; it also reflects body heat. In this paper, we describe the basic solar energy absorbing and heat retaining properties and applied tests under a wide range of environmental con ditions. In addition, we describe the new fabric's complex effects when worn with breathable fabric.
