The kinetics of disperse dyeing of polyester fibers is extremely complex. For a given dye/fiber system, the rate of dye uptake is controlled by physicochemical parameters such as distribution and diffusion coefficients. Mathematical analysis reveals, however, that even when such coefficients are constant, concentration-independent quantities, the uptake rate of disperse dye is still sensitive to other physicochemical parameters such as dyebath concentration and rate of flow.
