Abstract
The web-nep test for predicting dye-resistant nep formation in cotton fibers is com pared with other fiber-level evaluation procedures as a means of identifying potential cloth dyeing problems. Correlations of 0.92 were found between undyeable neps seen in the dyed webs and in the dyed cloth made from the same fibers. The web-nep test gave a better indication of the magnitude of cloth neps than did instrumental mea surements of average fiber quality, including micronaire, maturity, and linear density. Modifications in the procedure to increase the efficiency of the web-nep test are dis cussed.
