The ramie degumming efficiencies of three auxiliaries, sodium pyrophosphate, sodium metasilicate, and sodium sulfite, have been studied using a quadratic orthogonal rotation experimental design. Sodium pyrophosphate performs the function of a major auxiliary, but it can be replaced and replenished by sodium metasilicate over a definite range. An optimum complex formulation has been developed in the laboratory.
