A new multi-station fatigue tester has been developed for testing textile fibers in vacuum and gaseous environments. It is based on the fiber fatigue test technique of “biaxial rotation over a pin,” and it uses a novel “free rise and fall” self-aligning tensioning system. This system permits the application of a wide range of test tensions, most importantly the use of very low level tensions. Thus it surmounts the shortcomings of the previous testers and permits testing of very fine and weak fibers.
