Abstract
Earlier work at ATIRA has shown that there exists a quantitative relationship between warp-breakage rate and grey cotton yarn quality. This work attempts to restructure the earlier formula in such a way that it can be used to predict individually the relative contributions of three factors: the general inadequacy of yarn to withstand the load, stretch, and abrasion imposed on it during weaving; the obstruction or tensile/abrasive failure of thick places; and the failure or obstruction of knots and other miscellaneous faults. The formula has also been extended to blend yarns, and the accuracy of prediction is quite high.
