Abstract
In investigating porous water-retentive acrylic fibers by the polymer blending tech nique, a small amount of acrylonitrile-styrene copolymer (AS) was used and blended with acrylic copolymer (PAC). Using the equations proposed by Harwood, the sequence distribution parameters of AS copolymers were calculated according to the C≡N infrared stretching frequencies. The microporous structure of the PAC/AS blend fibers is closely related to the AS sequence distribution. The results suggest a new explanation of why the sequence distribution of the AS copolymer is an important factor interfering with the dispersibility of the AS copolymer in the PAC/AS blend dopes as well as in the blend fibers.
