Abstract
We present an analysis of a cotton moisture measuring system designed and de veloped for on-line use in a cotton ginning environment. The development of a math ematical model simulating the system measurements and relating these measurements to the dielectric properties of an inhomogeneous mixture of air, cotton, and water is discussed in detail. We then describe the calibration of the system and compare pre dicted moisture regains, based on our model, to those obtained by the standard oven method. The predicted moistures were within ±0.9 percentage points of those deter mined by the oven method over a range of oven moistures from 7.8% to 17.9%.
