The N—CH2OH content of durable press fabrics can be determined by reacting the formaldehyde generated during alkaline hydrolysis of the finish with a known amount of cyanide; the excess cyanide can be titrated directly with silver nitrate using a potentiometric method with a cyanide-sensitive electrode. The data indicate that the method is accurate and reproducible.
