A qualitative method is described to assess the lateral deformation of polyester filaments by making a simple overhand knot and observing the changes in dimensions and shape produced at the wrapping portion of the knot. The resistance to deformation is well correlated with density, residual shrinkage, crease recovery angle, and the lateral order in the filaments.
