Various types of non-formaldehyde crosslinking agents for cotton fabrics were studied. Glyoxal, polyacetal, bis-β-hydroxyethyl sulfone, propylene glycol diglycidyl ether, and glyoxal adducts of urea and its derivatives were used as crosslinkers. Two crosslinking agents, 4,5-dihydroxy-1,3-dimethyleneurea and 4,5-dihydroxy-1,3-bis- (β-hydroxyethyl) ethyleneurea were the most promising ones for practical use among the many investigated.
