The Effects of Cleaning in the Opening Room and at the Card on Rotor Residue for Open-End Machines

Abstract

The effect of cleaning in the opening room and at the card on rotor trash accumulation was in vestigated. Studies were done for a commercial machine without a trash cleaner, for one with a trash cleaner, and for a small-sample, four-rotor Spintester with a trash cleaner that could be closed. For the machine without the cleaner, extra cleaning in the opening room slightly reduced rotor trash accumulation. However, good carding conditions greatly reduced the trash accumulation. For the machine with the cleaner, extra opening-room cleaning had no effect, and carding had only a slight effect on rotor trash accumulation. Feed slivers that contained relatively large trash particles, primarily organic material, yielded greater rotor trash accumulation than those that contained rela tively small trash particles. The increase was large for the machine without a trash cleaner, and small for the machine with an efficient trash cleaner, rotor combination.
