A novel technique has been used to study cotton-fiber fracture. Single-fiber tensile tests are photographed through a polarizing microscope with a movie camera. Photomicrographs from the movie films show that structural reversals in the fiber helix are not inherent weak points. Other information, not available by normal test procedures, is recorded in the movie frames.
