A multipurpose finish involving shrink-resistance, flame-retardance, water-, and oil-repellency can be simultaneously applied to wool fabrics by a pad-dry-cure, wash-off, dry technique. An oligomeric vinylphosphonate and a polyvinylidene chloride copolymer impart flame-retardance, a bisulphite adduct of a polyurethane imparts shrink-resistance, and a fluorocarbon imparts water- and oil-repellency. The properties achieved are fast to multiple severe washings at 60°C.
