Four blended polyester/cotton fabrics were subjected to incremental Accelerotor abrasion. These fabrics varied in blend level, fabric geometry, and finish. Photomicrographs of stained fabric cross sections revealed clumping and uneven distribution of the two fibers within the yarns. Types of fabric damage observed were yarn voids, yarn displacement, fabric debris, and pills. Observed damage to polyester fibers included fused ends, bulbous stubs, jagged cut ends, and fiber enlargement and/or separation into fibrils within a continuous fiber length. Fibrillation of cotton fibers was also observed.
