This progress report describes a new type of self-cleaning, open-end spinning rotor. Rotors were modified by drilling holes of different numbers, sizes, and angles in the rotor groove. Accumulation of rotor dust was significantly less for the perforated than for the control rotors. The perforated rotors removed short fiber as well as dust and produced a yarn that shed less during knitting. Yarn quality was not adversely affected by the perforated rotors.
