Abstract
A four-year study of the effect of gin-stand production rates and saw speeds on short fiber content (STC) showed that. when today's gins are operated according to manufacturer's recommendations, they do not create more short fibers than gins of 25 years ago. Fiber-moisture content and the number of lint cleaning stages had more influence on SFC than did ginning rates or saw speeds.
