Abstract
A method of measuring the bending length of limp and/or curly fabrics is described. The method is based on Peirce's Heart-Loop test. Results obtained on a set of 12 knit fabrics correlate extremely well with sensory assessments of the bending stiffness. No difficulty was experienced in handling and measuring loose fabrics, and no systematic errors were apparent for curly fabrics. It is concluded that the test provides a method of measuring fabric stiffness with simple unsophisticated equipment for fabrics which were previously difficult or impossible to handle.
