To understand the breakage process of cotton tufts in the blowroom, many research workers have studied the tuft weight and its distribution. The aim of all these studies is to find a distribution that describes the observed data. In the present paper a probability model has been developed for the tuft weight distribution that describes the inherent behavior of the breakage process. The model is then expressed in matrix form for rapid application to practical problems. An explanation for the tuft breakage process results from the matrix representation of the probability model.
