White, aminized cotton fabric was prepared by dry-curing slowly in a vacuum oven. By carefully controlling loss of moisture during the dry-cure step, aminization of cotton fabric by aqueous 2-amino-ethylsulfuric acid-NaOH yields a white, partially aminoethylated cellulose. Yellowing during the aminization reaction on the whole has been related to curing beyond the dry point after aminoethylation ceases. The presence of atmospheric oxygen during the cure does not account for yellowing.
