A semi-pilot-plant scale technique for the THPOH-DMU-NH2 polymeric layering or coating of cotton and cotton-modacrylic blends has been studied. The coated fabric, as the substrate, was topped by an acrylic polymer, applied either as an emulsion or as a surface skin. The method for applying the surface skin was by a transfer, employing an acrylic film cast on silicone-treated release paper. These treatments rendered cottons and blends flame retardant and imparted a smooth, plastic or simulated-leather surface that maintained an aesthetically desirable hand.
