Roving drafting force is related to fiber compactness between two drafting aprons. Presented herein is a mathematical model describing the fiber compactness as an index in terms of spinning back draft, residual roving twist, Micronaire value of the cotton/polyester blend, and apron thickness. The effects of fiber compactness on yarn properties and end breakage in spinning are also discussed.
