Abstract
Determination of cotton fiber immaturity indices using air-flow techniques generally requires compression of the specimen. The reliability of the determination is subject not only to the degree of compression but to the initial orientation of the fibers within the test specimen. It is shown that the rekability of immaturity indices obtained from randomly oriented fiber specimens rapidly increases with compression up to a certain compression levd. Further reduction in specimen volume beyond this borderline level has little value.
