The yellowing of wool coptaining bound metal ions by exposure to light in the spectral range 310-500 nm has been measured with a tristimulus colorimeter. For equal doses of radiation it was found that wool samples to which ferric or cupric ions had been added yellowed more than wool containing fewer metal ions. It is suggested that special care be exercised in wool scouring to avoid metal ion contamination.
