Calculations of membrane forces in air-supported tents, as the internal pressure and the wind velocity varies, are pre sented. Conditions for stability of a semicircular profile are derived (in good agreement with experiments). Possibili ties of stress-leveling by using "air-foil" profiles are investigated. The membrane force per unit area covered is calcu lated for circular profiles with acute base angle and also elliptic profiles. As the wind velocity increases, the optimal base angle decreases.
