Abstract
The average fiber diameter of scoured mohair determined by a Port-Ar2 air-flow instrument was compared with that obtained by the short fiber measurement (microprojection) method. Samples from 52 lots of scoured mohair representing eight grades and ranging from 23.55 μ to 38.50 μ in average fiber diameter were tested. The over-all correlation coefficient between the average fiber diameter of the Port-Ar and the short fiber methods was r = + 0.98. However, when seg mented into groups ranging 4 μ in average fiber diameter, the correlation coefficients were: 23.1-27.0 μ, r = + 0.94; 27.1- 31.0 μ, r = + 0.94; 31.1-35.0 μ, r = + 0.85; and 35.1-39.0 μ, r = + 0.77.
