Phase transformations in cotton cellulose during "two-stage mercerization" with 32% and 10% caustic soda solutions have been investigated using X-ray diffraction methods. The studies show that Cell II, obtained by treating cotton with higher concentration of caustic soda solution, does not revert to Cell I when treated with lower concentrations of caustic soda solutions.
