Abstract
The effects of drawing and texturizing on the molecular weight distribution of nylon 6 multinlament varns were studied Results obtained through viscometry were later contirmed by spectra findings and differential dye uptake as observed by spectrophotometer.
Chain scission occurs during drawing and texturizing of nylon 6 multihlament varn as a result of mechanochemical degradation of polymer.
On raising the heater temperature, thermochemical activation causes recombination of reactive species resulting in solid polymerization of nylon 6 macromolecules.
During texturization, both chain scission and solid polymerization take place simultaneously. At lower heater temperatures, the extent of chain scission of nylon 6 macromolecules is predominant, while at higher heater temperature, the degree of solid polymerization is more pronounced.
