Abstract
Nylon film and fabric and polyester film substrates have been treated to render their surfaces more hydrophilic. Pre- irradiation in air was followed by treatments in solutions containing acrylic acid, sodium styrene sulfonate, N-methylol acrylamide, polyethylene oxide and water. The relative effectiveness of the different treatments was estimated by measur ing contact angles of water on the polymer film surfaces. A nylon fabric was also radiation-grafted and it exhibited significantly improved stain release under water.
