A new method is described for the estimation of dyes on cellulosic and cellulose acetate fibers using a modified cadoxen solvent. The method is based on the dissolution of dyed material in the colorless solvent and subsequent colorimetric analysis of the solution. Estimation of direct, reactive and vat dyes on cellulosic fibers and disperse dyes on cellulose acetate fiber is possible by the above method. Comparison of the cadoxen method with conventional methods used for the estimation of each class of dye indicates that the cadoxen method is more accurate and easier to perform than the earlier methods.
