Abstract
A method and an apparatus for determining frictional properties of continuous filament textile yarns are described. A general hypothesis relating friction with boundary, semi-boundary, and hydrodynamic conditions is presented along with a discussion on stick-slip friction. The influence of guide surface roughness, lubricant viscosity, threadline speed, guide temperature, guide diameter, and lubricant concentration on yarn friction is described. The relationship between friction mechanism and guide wear is also discussed.
