Abstract
The theory of fibrograms and of the physical principle of the measurement of the Digital Fibrograph, (DF) is considered and the results obtained by means of the WIRA Fibre Diagram Machine (WFDM) are compared with those of the DF for combed tops. The conclusion is that, for the whole set of combed tops examined, there is a correlation between the 20.1% span length found on the DF and the height determined by means of the WFDM. Likewise, there is a correlation between the 12.1% span length and the beard found on the WFDM. Other correlations were found for the percent short fiber (shorter than 30 mm or 40 mm) and the 50% and 66.7% span length. Finally, techniques are described which permit conversion from the first to the second kind of fibrogram and vice-versa; these are illustrated with examples.
