Abstract
An attempt has been made to define the course of the load—elongation curves of cotton fibers as a function of three variables. The physical meaning of these variables has been traced. They can be described as orientation f 0, coherence n/nT and easily ac cessible and easily broken bonds m 0/ nT .
Afterwards an analysis has been made of the load—elongation curves of differently treated fibers and it has been established as to how far the tensile strength, the elongation at break, as well as the elastic properties might be predicted from the values of the variables. Finally, attention has been paid to the causal coherence of these mechanical properties and the derived physical quantities.
