Abstract
A simple procedure has been devised to obtain reproducible estimations of the pro portions of keratose fractions to be derived from keratin fibers. Keratose estimations on wool, hair, and some isolated cell components provide direct chemical confirmation of the origin of these protein fractions within the fibers. Based on this evidence, keratose estimations on treated wools have been used to determine the location of reaction sites within the fiber. Cross-linking treatments, in particular, have been investigated.
