Abstract
This paper presents a three-dimensional mathematical model which describes a plain knitted fahric subjected to biaxial stresses. A relationship is established between ap plied stresses and fabric deformation through geometric parameters of the fabric structure. Consideration is also given to jamming of the yarns, which prevents further defornmation through the mechanism of loop slippage. Yarn extension and fabric rupture are also accounted for in the analysis.
